MARIETTA, Ga. - - Day two of competition at the Buzz Classic leaves Princeton with two more games in the lost column. Princeton lost to a tough Maryland team, 1-0 in the first game of the day. The Tigers later faced Troy State and lost 10-7. The conclusion of today's games means the end of the Tigers spring break trip to Georgia during which the Tigers went 1-5.
Maryland's pitcher, Bettker allowed only three hits in seven innings and did not allow a single run to cross the plate. The Tigers played a strong defensive game, several recent Princeton losses were games in which the Tigers committed several fielding errors. In today's match up, neither team committed any errors.
Tiger pitcher, Brie Galicinao drops to 1-4 for the season. Galicinao, who pitched a sensational game against UConn yesterday evening, allowing the only run of the game in the 9th inning, finished today's match striking out 6 of 28 faced Terrapin batters. Galicinao has lost several heartbreaking games including last night's 1-0 lost to UConn and the 3-1 lost to Mercer University earlier in the week. The Tigers lost a "slug-fest" against the Trojans of Troy State in the second game of the day, 10-7. Starting her first collegiate game was Tiger pitcher Wendy Bingham. Bingham has seen a good deal of play, starting most of the Tiger's games in left field as the designated player. This was Bingham's first time on the mound.
Eliminated from tournament play, Bingham allowed 6 runs off of 7 hits in five innings, three of the runs were unearned. Bingham struck-out one of the Trojans. Princeton's Sarah Jane White entered the game, relieving Bingham and allowed 4 runs on six hits.
The Tigers, who have struggled to put runs up on the board put up seven runs against the Trojans. The seven runs didn't stand up to the 10 Trojan base runners that crossed the plate. Once again Tiger errors allowed several runs to score.
The Tigers are now 4-6.
