Three Tiger Wreslters Named to All-Ivy Teams

PRINCETON N.J. - Three Princeton wrestlers were honored by the Ivy League's wrestling coaches, when they were named to the All-Ivy team. Joe Clarke, Juan Venturu and Greg Parker were all recognized as outstanding wrestlers in their respective weight class.
Joe Clarke who finished fifth in the EIWA championships held at the University of Pennsylvania on March 3-5, was named to the first team All-Ivy in the 141 lbs. weight class. Clarke did not loose a single match to an Ivy opponent. Clarke wrestled, Chad Erikson of Minnesota, the team that would eventual win the national championships and lost by only 2 points. Clarke is only a sophomore and will continue to be the top threat in the Ivy League come next season.
Juan Venturi, who had spectacular season wrestling in the 133 lbs. weight class was named to the second team All-Ivy. Venturi wrestled his way to the championship round of the EIWA tournament. He placed second behind Matt Picarsic of Harvard, Picarsic was named as first team All-Ivy. Venturi was one of the Tigers to travel to Iowa City to compete in the NCAA championships. The three Tigers to make the trip to Iowa were the first Princeton wrestlers sent to the NCAA championships in ten years. Venturi will return next year as a senior. Greg Parker received an honorable mention in the 174 lbs. weight class. Parker placed third at the EIWA championships and was the Princeton wrestler to advance the farthest in the NCAA championships. Jim Stanec of Cornell who placed second at the EIWA's and Josh Henson of UPenn, who placed fifth at the EIWA's were respectively named to the first and second team All-Ivy. Parker returns next season as a junior.
