Ithaca, N.Y. - The Princeton softball team split today's double header against Cornell, winning the first game 3-1 and loosing the second game, 12-0. The Tigers move to 15-14 on the season and 6-6 in the Ivy League. Today's doubleheader was the second half of a league weekend in which the Tigers defeated Columbia on Saturday, 4-0 and 7-0.
In the pitcher's circle for the Tigers in today's first match was Brie Galicinao. Galicinao struck out five Big Red batters and allowed five hits. On the mound for Cornell was their No. 1 pitcher Sarah Sterman who drops to an 11-4 record.
Princeton struck early when a ball hit off the bat of catcher, Devon Keefe carried over the right field fence for a solo home run in the second inning. Princeton's Kim Veenstra and Vicki Siesta added two more runs for their team in the sixth inning to go up 3-0. The Big Red, who put together a little threat in the bottom of the seventh, scored one run in the final inning.
Today's second game was simply a disaster for the Tigers. Freshman pitcher, Wendy Bingham loaded the bases in the first inning on three walks. Cornell's Allison Batten picked up four RBI's when she sent a ball over the right field fence for the opening inning grand slam.
An injured Sarah Jane White came into the game to relieve Bingham in the second inning. Costly fielding errors and poor Tiger at-bats lead to the 12-0 Princeton lost.
