Galicinao Reigns Supreme as Player and Pitcher of the Year
May 23, 2001 | Softball
Galicinao, who at one point led the league with a .410 batting average, finished the season batting .364 that placed her behind only Tiffany Whitton of Harvard. Galicinao was not only the top slugger for Princeton she was also the Tiger's top pitcher. Galicinao's remarkable 0.64 ERA ranked her no. 1 on the Tiger squad, no. 1 in the Ivy League and no. 8 in the nation. She finished the season with a 10-9 record allowing only 13 earned runs in a 142 innings pitched and struck out 141 faced batters. Calling the game for Galicinao behind the plate this season was Devon Keefe. Keefe finished the season batting .291 with four homeruns. Keefe finished an impressive career starting 36 of 38 games and for her accomplishments was named first team All-Ivy.
Lori Volker, the four-year starter was never the flashy player on the field, but has been consistent throughout her career. This season was Volker's best, batting a career high .311 and anchoring the Tiger outfield playing in the center. Volker finished the season strong after suffering a bit of a slump at the plate. Moving from the lead-off position to the bottom of the order, Volker batted seven for seven against Penn on April 28 and nearly .500 in the remaining games of the season. Volker earned second team All-Ivy honors
Kim Veenstra, the Tiger's shortstop earned second team All-Ivy honors. Veenstra finished the season batting .333. She has been a starting infielder for the Tigers for three seasons and will return next season as one of the top athletes in the league.
