Parker, Venturi Compete In Midlands Invitational

Princeton, NJ - Greg Parker (Jr., Clifton Park, NY) and Juan Venturi (Sr., Houston, TX) traveled to Northwestern to participate in the Midlands Invitational Wrestling Tournament. Four other Tigers were in action over the holiday break as they competed in the Wilkes-Barre Open.
Parker, the sixth seed at 174 pounds, opened the tournament by pinning Nate Moorman of Carsen-Newman before defeating Jake Huffman of Oregon State, 14-0, in the second round. Parker met third seed and All-American Jacob Volkman of Minnesota in the quarterfinals and picked up an 8-4 win. Parker was to face Penn's Rick Springman in the semifinals but was forced to withdraw prior to the match with an injury. He forfeited to sixth place.
Venturi opened the tournament with a narrow 3-2 loss to fourth-seeded Robert Sessley of Ohio State at 141 lbs. He went on to win his next two bouts against Eric Novak of Illinios (3-1) and Shane Martin of Michigan State (8-3) before dropping an 8-5 loss to John Giacche of Northwestern.
Matt Hawrilenko (So, Hanover, MA) led a contingent of Princeton wrestlers who competed in the Wilkes-Barre Open. Hawrilenko posted a 4-2 record at the tournament. Kenny Chu (So., River Edge, NJ), Ben Shaye (Sr., New York, NY) and Jack Fleming (Fr., Hulmeville, PA) also competed in the tournament.
The Tigers will be back in action on Sat, Jan. 5 at the Lone Star Duals.
