Women's Tennis Falls to Yale in ECAC Championships Match

Flushing Meadows, N.Y. - It came down to the final two singles matches as Princeton fell to Yale 5-2 in the tournament championship match at the ECAC championships. Princeton defeated James Madison 4-0 and Boston College 4-3 in the opening rounds of plat. The Tigers reached the finals with a 4-0 victory over Brown.
Yale took an early 1-0 lead by capturing the doubles point. Princeton's Kavitha Krishnamurthy and Neha Uberoi defeated Elizabeth Kaufman and Stephanie White in the No. 1 doubles match but Yale won at No. 2 and No. 3 to take the point.
With the No. 2 and No. 3 singles matches still to be played out, Yale maintained a 3-2 lead in the finals. Krishnamurthy defeated Purcell 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 1 singles match and Princeton's Jessica Siebel defeated Ashley Martin 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 6 singles match. Yale won at No. 4 and No.5.
At one point playing in the No.2 match, Uberoi was leading 3-6, 6-3, 3-2 in the final set yet Kaufman of Yale battled back in the tie-breaker to win 6-3, 6-3 6-5 (6). Susie Hiniker defeated Princeton's Alison Hashmall at No. 3 6-2, 6-5 (2) as Yale went on to capture the 2002 ECAC championships.
Krishnamurthy finished the tournament with a perfect 8-0 record, going 4-0 at No. 1 singles position and 4-0 at No. 1 doubles with teammate Uberoi.
