Princeton, N.J. - Princeton's sprint football team registered more passing yards, more rushing yards and picked up more first downs, but in the end could not reach paydirt in a 10-0 loss to Cornell on Friday night.
The Tigers and Big Red opened with a scoreless first quarter in which defense dominated. Cornell put together a short drive at the start of the second quarter that set up a Chris Garnic field goal attempt from 33 yards out. Garnic missed the kick, but a personal foul on the Tigers gave Cornell a first down and Garnic's second attempt, a 26-yard field goal, was good.
Cornell led 3-0 at halftime. A Princeton fumble on the first play from scrimmage in the second half set up Dean Coccaro, who ran in from four yards out to give the Big Red a 10-0 lead. The Tigers would not be able score despite forcing three Cornell turnovers in the second half.
Freshman running back Olawale Oladehin led the Tigers on the ground with 52 yards on 11 carries. Senior Rikki Racela had 39 yards for a Tiger team that carried the ball 40 times for 88 yards. Sophomore quarterback Dennis Bakke threw for 74 yards, spreading out the yardage among four receivers. Adam Farren led the receiving corps with 24 yards, Cleland Welton finished with 21, Nick Walters finished with 19 and Frank Langston ended the game with 10-yards receiving.
For Princeton, the offensive woes continue as it fails to put points on the board for the second straight week. The Tigers fall to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in the Collegiate Sprint Football League. Cornell improves to 2-2 overall and to 1-1 in the CSFL.
The Tigers wrap up the home schedule with Navy next Friday, Oct. 25. The Midshipmen are atop the CSFL standings with a 4-0 overall record and a 1-0 conference mark. Next Friday's game is slated for 7 p.m.
