Men's Tennis Competes at 2002 Omni Regionals

Philadelphia, Pa. - Trevor Smith (Sr., Hilton Head, S.C) reached the round of 16 before falling to George Turner of Harvard 7-5, 6-0 as the Tigers competed at the 2002 Omni Hotels Eastern Regionals. The Princeton doubles team of Darius Craton (Fr., Waterloo, Ont.) and David Gopstein (So., New York, N.Y.) reached the quarterfinal round.
Smith reached the round of 16 by defeating Pedja Zdrakovic of Hartford 6-3, 6-4. Josh Burman (So., Boca Raton, Fla.) and Craton eached reached the round of 32 before being eliminated from singles play. Burman faced Andreas Lauland of Virgina Tech., and lost 6-4, 6-1. Craton slipped to Stephane Rod of Virginia Tech. 6-1, 6-3. Tim Kofol (Jr., Boston, Mass.) defeated Justin Slattery of Boston College in the opening round 7-6(5), 3-6, 6-3 but fell to Jeff Novotny of UMBC in the round of 64, 6-2, 6-4.
The doubles teams of Craton/Gopstein and Burman/Kofol both advanced to the round of 16. Burman and Kofol were defeated by Lingman/Riddell of Harvard 8-4. Craton and Gopstein advanced to the quarterfinals by defeating Goldman/Murphy of Yale, 8-5 before falling to Goldberg/Shamasdin of Brown 8-6.
