Men's Hockey Shuts Out Western Ontario 5-0

Mike Patton assisted on Luc Paquin's game-winning goal and scored Princeton's third goal in the Tigers 5-0 shutout of Western Ontario in an exhibition game played Sunday afternoon at Hobey Baker Memorial Rink. Tommy Colclough also recorded a goal and an assist for the Tigers.
Princeton started strong, outshooting Western Ontario 14-5 in the first period. The Tigers' work resulted in a goal at 13:37 with Mustang Tom Brown in the penalty box. Patton carried the puck into the offensive zone and fired a shot on net. Mike D'Alessandro made the save but the rebound bounced to Pacquin who blasted it into the open net. Princeton extended its lead 37 seconds later when Neil McCann found the net. Colclough fed McCann the puck at the point; McCann pulled D'Alessandro across, then fired across the grain and scored. The Tigers scored their third goal at the 5:10 mark of the second period. Patton, parked at the top of the left circle, one-timed a Steve Slaton pass just inside the past far post. Trevor Beaney also assisted on the power play goal. Princeton continued the pressure and scored again 1:22 later. Chris Owen received a pass from Matt Maglione in the neutral zone and skated into the offensive end. He carried the puck down the right wing, and then drove to the net, stuffing the puck through D'Alessandro's legs.
The Tigers closed out the scoring at 17:34 of the second period when Colclough one-timed a pass from behind the net through D'Alessandro's legs. Sebastian Borza and Jesse Masear assisted on the goal.
All three Tiger goaltenders played a period in net. Trevor Clay started and made five saves in the first period. Eric Leroux played the second period, stopping two shots, and Nate Nomeland was in net for the third period, making five saves.
The Tigers open up the regular season next weekend. On Friday night, they host 7th ranked North Dakota at Hobey Baker Memorial Rink and then visit 11th ranked Providence on Sunday.
