Colgate tops Men's Hockey 4-3

Darryl McKinnon's third period goal was the difference as Colgate topped Princeton 4-3 in both team's first ECAC game of the season Friday night at Starr Rink.
Colgate started strong, scoring the game's first two goals. McKinnon opened the scoring at 8:15 of the first period when he one-timed a centering pass from Paul Kelley into the Princeton net. Scooter Smith made it 2-0 at 13:56 when he blasted a shot just inside the far post along the ice.
Princeton answered back at 17:33 when Dustin Sproat tallied his first career goal. Sproat redirected a Seamus Young point shot past Colgate goaltender Steve Silverthorn. The power-play goal was assisted by Young and Chris Owen.
Princeton tied the score 1:20 into the second period when Patrick Neundorfer tallied his first career goal. Neundorfer capitalized on a loose puck in front of the Princeton net to even up the score. Matt Maglione and Sproat assisted on the goal. Colgate reclaimed a one-goal lead at 13:26 on a power-play goal from Doyle. Doyle's goal was assisted by Ryan Smyth and Adam Mitchell.
The Tigers evened the score with 1:40 remaining in the period. Mike Patton tallied his second goal of the season after finding a loose puck in front and shooting it past Silverthorn. George Parros and Mark Masters assisted on Patton's goal.
The Raiders regained the lead for good at 8:18 of period three when Mitchell tallied his second goal of the night. Eric Main notched an assist.
Princeton (0-3-0, 0-1-0 ECAC) returns to action tomorrow night when the Tigers visit Cornell at 7:00 p.m. Next weekend, Princeton hosts Union and Rensselaer at Baker Rink.
