Box Score
Cornell forward Ryan Vesce had two goals and an assist as Cornell defeated Princeton 3-0 Saturday night at Lynah Rink.
The two teams skated to a scoreless first period. Cornell outshot Princeton 8-1 and had several quality scoring opportunities but Princeton goaltender Trevor Clay was equal to the task, sticking aside all eight Big Red shots.
Cornell scored the game's first goal at 8:47 when Cam Abbott forced a rebound past Clay on a delayed penalty call. Ryan Vesce skated in front and took the initial shot. Clay made the stop, but Abbott was there for the rebound.
The Big Red extended the lead to two goals with 54 seconds remaining in the second period after taking advantage of a Princeton offensive zone turrnover. Abbott skated the puck up the ice and left a drop pass for Vesce who wristed the puck past Clay.
Cornell scored at 4:12 of the third period to go up 3-0. With a penalty coming to Princeton, the Big Red pulled their goalie and scored with the extra attacker when Travis Bell fed Vesce who one-timed it past Clay for his second goal of the night.
Cornell goaltender David LeNeveu made 16 saves to earn win. Clay turned aside 26 shots for Princeton.
Princeton (0-4-0, 0-2-0 ECAC) returns to the ice next weekend when Union and Rensselaer visit Baker Rink for ECAC games. Game time is 7:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday night.
