Princeton Women Sweep Double-Dual Meet With Harvard and Yale

New Haven, Conn. - The Princeton University women's swimming and diving team notched its 30th straight victory with wins over Ivy League foes Harvard and Yale at New Haven, Conn. over the weekend. Princeton, now 7-0 overall and 6-0 in the conference, defeated the Crimson by a 190-127 score and swam past Yale, 144-125.
Senior Valeria Kukla captured the first individual swim event of the meet with a six-second victory in the 1,000 yard freestyle. Kukla swam a 9:58.16, ahead of Yale's Laura O'Brien, who finished in 10:04.61. Kukla also won the 200-yard freestyle (1:51.06) and 500-yard freestyle (4:55.75) for the Tigers. Senior Kate Conroy led a 1-2 Princeton finish in the 100-yard backstroke (56.24), junior Michelle Nielson finished second with a 57.07.
Princeton freshman Chrissy Macaulay won the 50-yard freestyle to give the Orange and Black a lead of 106-63 over Harvard and 105-64 over Yale after day one of competition. Conroy got things started on day two with a victory in the 200-yard backstroke. Her time of 2:02.94 was 0.83 seconds faster than teammate Claire Pearson, who finished second in the event.
Junior Molly Seto won the 100-yard butterfly (56.08) and sophomore Katie Kopil placed third (57.80) to secure the Princeton victory. On the boards, Danielle Stramandi finished second in the 1-meter competition and Maggie Littlefield placed second on the 3-meter board.
The Tigers came into the H-Y-P meet with a No. 23 ranking in the CSCAA Swimming and Diving poll. Princeton, the only Ivy school ranked in the top-25, will next head to Columbia for a noon match against the Lions on Saturday, Feb. 9.
