Men's Tennis Defeated By William & Mary, 6-1

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Princeton men's tennis team, ranked No. 67 in the nation, dropped a 6-1 decision to No. 68 William and Mary on Thursday afternoon at McCormack-Nagelson Tennis Center. The Tigers drop to 0-1 on the season, while the Tribe moves to 4-2.
William and Mary won two of the three doubles matches to take an early 1-0 lead in the contest. The team of Tim Kofol (So., Bronxville, NY) and Judson Williams (Sr., Raleigh, NC) picked up a 9-8 (5) win at second doubles but the Tigers could not get another win and the Tribe was able to take the doubles point.
Trevor Smith (Jr., Hilton Head, SC) picked up Princeton's singles point with a win over Joe Brooks at fourth singles. Smith dropped the first set in a tiebreaker, and then won the second set 6-2 before Brooks had to retire.
William & Mary won each of the five other singles matches in straight sets to secure the 6-1 victory.
Princeton will return to the courts on Friday, Feb. 1 against Old Dominion and will then meet Virginia Commonwealth University on Saturday, Feb. 2 before returning home. Those matches are scheduled for 2 p.m. and 10 a.m. respectively.
