Men's Tennis Falls Short At BYU

SAN DIEGO, CA - The Princeton men's tennis team opened its spring trip by dropping a close 4-3 decision to Brigham Young on Saturday afternoon. The loss drops the Tigers to 5-3 on the season.
BYU got an early edge by winning the doubles point. Princeton's Judson Williams and Tim Kofol narrowly defeated Jeff Olsen and Jeff Harbach 9-8 (4) at second doubles, but the Tigers could not pick up another win to take the doubles point. Dan Friedman and Josh Burman dropped an 8-2 decision to Carlos Lozano and Gert Vilms at No. 1, while Hendrick Chasse and Darren Joe lost 8-2 at the No. 3 position.
The Tigers were without top singles player Judson Williams, but Trevor Smith stepped in and picked up a win at first singles. He defeated Carlos Lozano 7-6, 6-7, 1-0 (8).
Tim Kofol defeated BYU's Jeff Olsen 6-0, 6-3 at fifth singles. Nick Benjamin earned a hard fought decision over Jeff Harbach 2-6, 7-6, 1-0 (11) at No. 6 but the Tigers could not get another point and BYU held on for the 4-3 win.
