SAN DIEGO, CA - The University of San Diego men's tennis team improved to 6-8 on the season with Friday's 4-3 victory over visiting Princeton at West Courts. The Tigers drop to 6-4 with the loss, while San Diego improves to 6-8
The Toreros swept all three doubles matches to earn the all-important doubles point. At No. 1 doubles, USD's Juan Cerda and Jason Pongsrikul, ranked 27th in the nation, downed Princeton's Tim Kofol and Judson Williams, 8-6. USD also got doubles wins from Stephen Taylor and Ted Burghardt at No. 2, and Robert Blair and Martin Linusson at No. 3.
Judson Williams picked up a point for the Tigers with his 6-4, 6-4 win over Juan Cerda at first singles. Josh Burman handed San Diego's Stephen Taylor a 6-4, 7-5 defeat at fourth singles and Dan Friedman earned Princeton's third point of the day with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Nicholas Schaffner at sixth singles.
USD got singles wins from Robert Blair at No. 2, a 6-4, 7-6 winner over Trevor Smith, Jason Pongsrikul at No. 3, a 6-4, 6-3 winner over Tim Kofol, and at No. 5 with Ted Burghardt earning a 6-3, 6-7, 6-3 win over Darren Joe.
