Men's Tennis Rolls Over Yale

PRINCETON, NJ - Darren Joe, Trevor Smith and Judson Williams each won three-set singles matches to help lift Princeton to a 5-2 win over Yale in Ivy League men's tennis action on Saturday afternoon at Jadwin Gymnasium. The Tigers improve to 11-8, and 2-1 in the Ivy League with the win.
Princeton got things started on the right foot by winning two out of three matches to take the doubles point. The team of Tim Kofol and Judson Williams handed Yale's Dustin West and Ryan Coyle an 8-4 loss at first doubles. The Bulldogs earned a win at second doubles when Ryan Murphy and David Goldstein defeated Dan Friedman and Josh Burman 8-3. Hendrick Chasse and Trevor Smith clinched the doubles point with a hard-fought 9-8 (1) win at third doubles.
Williams started things off at the top of the order with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 win over Murphy and Smith kept them going for the Tigers with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 win against Goldman at second singles. Yale picked up its first point at third singles with Rosenfeld's 6-3, 6-4 win over Kofol. Joe defeated Shackelton 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 at fourth singles, and Friedman handed Gabe Goldstein a 6-4, 6-0 loss at sixth singles to secure the match for the Tigers. Johnny Lu defeated Nick Benjamin 7-5, 6-4 at fifth singles for the Bulldogs second point of the match
Princeton will travel to Dartmouth and Harvard next weekend for more Ivy League action. The Tigers will meet the Big Green on Friday, April 12 at 3 p.m. before facing the Crimson on Saturday, April 13 at 1 p.m.
