PROVIDENCE, RI - Kristi Watson won both her singles and doubles match, with partner Priya Bhupathi, but that was not enough to lift women's tennis past Brown as it suffered a 4-3 defeat in Ivy League action on Friday afternoon.
The team of Watson and Bhupathi provided the only doubles victory for the Tigers, which enabled Brown to take and early 1-0 lead in the match by clinching the doubles point.
Kavitha Krishnamurthy and Watson put Princeton on the board by winning their singles matches. Krishnamurthy, ranked No. 69 in the nation defeated Victoria Beck 6-4, 6-4 at first singles. Watson handed Adrianna Marianella a 6-3, 6-0 loss out of the second singles position. The Bears picked up a win at third singles with Alex Arlak's 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 win over Priya Bhupathi. Stephanie Berg's 7-6 (5), 6-2 win over Kerry Meath at fourth singles provided the Tigers with their third point of the day. Unfortunately, Brown swept the fifth and six singles matches to clinch the 4-3 win.
Princeton will return home for a pair of Ivy League matches next weekend. The Tigers will host Dartmouth on Friday, April 12 and Harvard on Saturday, April 13. Those matches are scheduled for 3 p.m. and 1 p.m. respectively.
