Women's Tennis Knocks Off Yale 4-3

PROVIDENCE, RI - Priya Bhupathi's 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 win over Andrea Goldberg at third singles lifted the Princeton women's tennis team to a 4-3 win over No. 75 Yale in Ivy League action on Saturday afternoon in New Haven, CT. The Tigers improve their league record to 2-1 with the win, and are 6-8 overall.
Princeton won two out of three matches to take the crucial doubles point. The teams of Avantika Bhargava and Kavitha Krishnamurthy at first doubles and Bhupathi and Kristin Watson at second doubles each picked up 8-2 and 8-4 wins respectively. Mateya McCoy and Stephanie Berg suffered and 8-2 loss to Susie Hinkler and Elizabeth Oosterhuis at third doubles.
Krishnamurthy defeated Margaret Purcell 7-6 (1), 6-1 at first singles. Kristen Carlin stepped up for the Tigers and put a point on the board with a 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 win over Stephanie White out of the sixth position and let Princeton just one point shot of the win. Bhupathi provided that point for the Tigers with her three-set victory.
Princeton will return home for a pair of Ivy League matches next weekend. The Tigers will host Dartmouth on Friday, April 12 and Harvard on Saturday, April 13. Those matches are scheduled for 3 p.m. and 1 p.m. respectively.
