Women's Track and Field Finishes Third at Heptagonal Championships

Annapolis, Md. - Lauren Simmons set a new meet record in the 800m crossing the finish line in 2:07.03 as the Tigers finished in third place at the 2002 Heptagonal championships. Cornell finished in first with 187 points and Brown finished in second, tallying 109 point. The Tigers finished with 81 points.
Simmons broke the existing 800m Heptagonal record of 2:07.25 set by Louisa Gerrits of Yale in 1987 by .22 seconds. Simmons has been absolutely dominating in the 800m over the last two years. As a junior Simmons won both the indoor and outdoor Heptagonal titles in the 800m and she won the indoor Heptagonal title this winter with a time of 2:10.51. This season, Simmons recorded the 12th fastest time in the country, 2:05.23 at the Duke Invitational.
Simmons also captured the 1,500m Heptagonal title, crossing the finish line in 4:26.25. Senior, Catherine Casey finished third in the 3,000m with a time of 9:55.64 and she finished third in the 5,000m with a time of 17:01.47
Hasina Outtz captured the 400m hurdles Heptagonal championship, crossing the finish line at 1:00.78. Laura Shackelton finished ninth in the steeple chase with a time of 11:29.14.
Brooke Minor took second place in the high jump, clearing 1.70m (5'7"0 and Rachel Rosemeyer finished in fifth place in the discus competition with a mark of 40.17m (131'9"). Susan Coltman finished second in the Heptathlon with 5,196 points which provisionally qualifiers her for the NCAA championships.
Last year, the Tigers finished eighth at the 2001 outdoor HEPS.
