Three Tigers Named to Softball's All-Northeast Team

Princeton, N.J. - Brie Galicinao, Kristin Del Calvo and Kim Veenstra were recently named to the northeast region's All-Regional softball team. All three athletes received second-team distinctions. Galcinao was also recently named to the NCAA Region Two All-Tournament team after the Tigers competed in the NCAA Regionals at the University of Minnesota.
Galicinao, a senior from Stockton, Calif. was selected as the Ivy League Pitcher of the Year for the second straight season after leading the Tigers to 13-1 Ivy record and the League championship. On the season, Galicinao went 17-9 with a 1.34 ERA in 172.0 innings pitched, striking out 172 batters. Galicinao pitched a perfect 7-0 against Ivy opponents and allowed only eight runs in 49 innings of League work, registering a 0.69 ERA. She struck out 51 Ivy opponents. Last season, Galicinao was the first athlete in history to be named the Ivy League Player and Pitcher of the Year in the same season. This is the third time in her career, that Galicinao has been named first-team. Galicinao led the League in strikeouts. She also led the League in hits, runs-scored and doubles. She led the Tigers with 61 hits and a .355 batting average. Galicinao was also named to the NCAA Region Two All-Tournament team after allowing only one earned run in 14 innings of work, while striking out 18 batters. The Tigers dropped two games at the tournament, losing their first contest to Minnesota 2-1 and their second game to Penn State, 3-0. Galicinao struck out 11 Golden Gophers in the contest against Minnesota. She is one of two athletes to start all 52 games for the Tigers this season.
Del Calvo, a sophomore from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., was selected to the Region team after hitting .340 with team-high 12 homers and 42 RBIs on the season. She was also unanimously selected first-team All-Ivy. Against Ivy competition, Del Calvo batted .333 with six homeruns and 16 RBIs. Del Calvo has shattered the single season homerun record and set the new standard at 12. She also tied the NCAA record for most homeruns in a single game when she hit three against Yale on April 20.
Veenstra, a senior from Hawthorne, N.J. is the only other player on the Tigers to start every game this season. Veenstra was second on the team with 164 at-bats, 10 stolen bases, eight home runs and a .573 slugging percentage. She was third on the team with a .329 batting average. In her career, Veenstra started all but three games, missing on her freshman season and two her sophomore season. In all, she started 187 of Princeton's 190 games over the past four years.
