Princeton Crews Sweep Races On Lake Carnegie

Princeton, N.J. - Princeton crew had a perfect day on Lake Carnegie with both the heavyweight men and open crew racing to victory on a sunny Saturday morning. The men defeated Brown to take the Compton Cup and the women swept visiting Pennsylvania and George Washington.
The heavyweights took the Varsity 8 in a time of 5:51.2 as Brown finished third behind racing guest Penn. The Quakers placed second in 5:54.6 while the Bears crossed the line in 5:55.3.
Princeton would take all the races with Brown finishing second and Penn placing third in the 2nd Varsity, 3rd Varsity and 2nd Freshmen boats. Princeton also won the 1st Freshmen 8, but the Brown, after holding second 1,000 meters in, broke its rudder and could not finish the race.
The women also finished the day with a clean and complete sweep. The Varsity 8 came out strong and cruised to victory in 6:36.4 as Penn took second in 6:42.3 and George Washington placed third in 7:04.9
The 2nd Varsity race was much the same with Princeton winning and Penn placing second ahead of Geroge Washington. Princeton won the Varsity 4, Novice 8 and 2nd Novice 8 races as well.
