Chicago, Ill. - Princeton's Mike Nugent saw his first regular season MLS action in Chicago Fire's 3-0 win over DC United last Saturday. Nugent, a fourth-round draft pick by the Fire in last February's draft, notched valuable minutes when he replaced Princeton soccer alum Jesse Marsch '96 in the second half of play.
This past season saw Nugent lead the Tigers to a 10-3-5 overall record and a share of the Ivy League title. He was named a second-team All-America selection as well as the Ivy League Player of the Year and a first-team Mid-Atlantic Region and All-Ivy honoree.
Nugent was named the Ivy League Player of the Week twice in his senior season while leading the team and conference in scoring with 12 goals and six assists. Nugent ended his Princeton career tied for fourth all-time in career goals and sixth for most career points.
The Fire resume play next Saturday, May 11 when they host Los Angeles. That game can be seen live at 4 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on ESPN2.
