Princeton, N.J. - Princeton University Men's Soccer hosts some of New Jersey's finest teams as well as Ivy rival Pennsylvania as it kicks off the 2002 men's soccer season. Fairleigh Dickinson and Seton Hall join Princeton and Penn in a two-day tournament held at Princeton's Lourie-Love Field.
The Tigers open the season against the same team that knocked them out of the NCAA tournament a year ago. The Fairleigh Dickinson Knights square off against Princeton on Friday, Sept. 13 at 7:30 p.m. The game, part of a doubleheader, is the second game of the four-game tournament hosted by the Tigers.
Last season, Princeton won the Ivy League title, finished with a 10-3-5 overall record and defeated Fairleigh Dickinson, 1-0 in a regular season match. The Knights, however, edged out the Tigers in the first-round of the NCAA tournament, winning 2-1 and sending the Ivy League champs away empty handed from the NCAA Tournament. Princeton enters this season's opener with an 8-2-1 advantage in the all-time series with FDU.
Pennsylvania and Seton Hall kick off Princeton's tournament at 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 13. The Tigers and Knights follow in the nightcap. Day two of the tournament is Sunday, Sept. 15 with Pennsylvania and Fairleigh Dickinson kicking things off at 12:00 noon. Princeton plays Seton Hall at 2:30 p.m. to conclude the weekend play.
Admission to each day is $6 for adults and $4 for students. This price includes admission for both games on either Friday or Sunday.
