Final Stats
Sophomore quarterback Braden Amigo ran for three touchdowns in place of injured starter George Feagins and Army gained all 412 of its yards on the ground as the Black Knights defeated Princeton, 44-7, in a Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) game played at Frelinghuysen Field Friday night.
After receivers dropped two certain long touchdown scores early on in the game, the Black Knights (2-1, 1-0 CSFL) abandoned the pass in the second quarter and went exclusively to the run, scoring 28 points in the quarter to put the game away. The Black Knights scored first on an 11-play, 66-yard drive that ended early in the quarter with a two-yard run by Russel Burnett and then took advantage of a turnover to score again just 1:46 later. Mik Kelvington intercepted a Dennis Bakke pass at the Princeton 42 and returned it to the Tiger 19, and Burnett then scored on a six-yard run to make it 14-0 Army. Despite the loss of Feagins, who was injured on Army's next drive on a third-down play, the Black Knights would extend their lead to four touchdowns thanks to a Princeton special teams miscue and a fourth-down stand. Princeton punter Neil Swami fielded a low snap but went down to one knee, giving Army the ball on the Tiger 9, and Amigo punched it in from one yard out 42 seconds later. The Tigers then failed on a fourth-and-one situation on their next drive, and Amigo scored from 25 yards out 22 seconds later to give the Black Knights a 28-0 halftime lead.
Clay Bibb led Army with 113 rushing yards on 11 carries, while Burnett had 79 on 10 chances and Fabio Castro 73 yards on 15 carries. The Black Knights averaged 6.3 yards per carry and ran the ball 65 times in 73 total plays.
Princeton's touchdown came with 4:52 left in the game and made the score 37-7 Army. On a fourth-and-23 situation from the Army 32, backup quarterback Steven Eaton found Fred Chu behind a Black Knight defender and Chu strolled untouched into the end zone.
Matt Worley led Princeton with 54 rushing yards on 14 carries, while Frank Langston added two receptions for 24 yards. Langston also added an interception defensively, picking off an Amigo pass on the goal line on a fourth-down situation midway through the fourth quarter and returning it 43 yards.
Army's scores in the second half came on a 35-yard Kurt Cheeseman field goal midway through the fourth quarter, a four-yard touchdown run by Burnett early in the fourth quarter, his third of the game, and Amigo's third TD run of the game on a quarterback sneak with 47 seconds left.
Princeton plays at Cornell next Friday.
