The Ivy League women's soccer race is starting to reach the critical stage of the season. Princeton, in search of a fourth-straight title, finds itself one game behind Dartmouth at the midway point. The Tigers host Columbia Friday night (7:30).
Columbia at Princeton:
The whammy - Columbia has not scored a goal against Princeton since 1998.
The other whammy - Princeton is undefeated at home this season (5-0).
Poll cats - Princeton is ranked 21st this week by the NSCAA.
Heating up - Columbia is 2-0-1 in its last three games after starting the season 2-6-1.
Point, counterpoint - Princeton ranks first in the Ivy League in goals-scored; Columbia ranks last in the Ivy League in goals-allowed.
How sweet it Es - Esmeralda Negron is in a four-way tie for fifth-place in career goals scored at Princeton with 22.
More Es - Esmeralda Negron ranks seventh all-time at Princeton in career points with 48. Last Es - Esmeralda Negron is tied with Cornell's Emily Knight, Dartmouth's Lea Kiefer and Penn's Katy Cross for the Ivy League lead in goals scored with nine.
Can you spare a dime? - Emily Behncke, who had no assists last year when she was the Ivy League Rookie of the Year, is tied for the Ivy League lead in assists this season with five.
Net results - After splitting each of the first nine games in goal, Emily Vogelzang (vs. Brown) and Madeleine Jackson (vs. BU) have each played the entire game the last two games and posted a shutout.
I'm honored - Meghan Farrell was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week for the second time this season after scoring in overtime to beat Brown last Saturday.
Em-possible - Emily Behncke scored the only goal in Princeton's 1-0 win at Columbia last year.
D plus - Princeton has shut out its last two opponents (Brown, BU) after shutting out one of its first nine opponents (UNC Greensboro).
It ain't over 'til it's over - Columbia has scored two goals in the final five minutes of regulation in two of its last four games, once to defeat Manhattan and once to force overtime with Brown (in an eventual 3-2 loss).
Welcome home - Courteny Nasshorn, tied for the Columbia lead in goals and points, attended high school at nearby Peddie School.
A league of their own - Princeton-Columbia is the only Ivy game Friday night. There are three games Saturday: Dartmouth, the only team with a perfect Ivy record, is at Penn; Brown is at Harvard; Cornell is at Yale.
More league - Princeton has won at least a share of the Ivy League title each of the last three seasons.
Young guns - Of Princeton's 27 goals, 25 have been scored by players who will return next season.
Highly offensive - Princeton has scored 27 goals in 11 games this season. The Tigers scored 28 goals in 17 games all of last season.
Coming attractions - Princeton is at Harvard next weekend. Julie Shackford is 1-7 all-time against Harvard, with her only win coming in the 2001 game, Princeton's last appearance in Cambridge.
