PRINCETON, N.J. - The competition doesn't get any easier for Princeton men's soccer this week as it faces two more nationally ranked teams and another Ivy League opponent. Princeton begins at Rutgers, the No. 16 team in the nation, on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. The Scarlet Knights are ranked second in the Middle Atlantic region behind Fairleigh Dickinson, who the Tigers face on Sunday.
Rutgers is 8-4-3 overall and comes off a 2-0 shutout of Big East rival West Virginia on Saturday. The win moved the Scarlet Knights to 5-2-3 in the Big East, second to St. John's (7-2-0). Senior Josh Gros had one goal against West Virginia and currently leads the team with 12 goals and five assists, putting him among the top scorers in the nation.
Princeton enters the game with a 4-5-3 overall record and 1-2-1 mark in the Ivy League after losing 2-0 at Harvard last Saturday. The Tigers outshot the Crimson 12 to three but had only three shots on goal, all which were blocked or saved. Kyle McHugh, Gianfranco Tripicchio and Marty Shaw each had three shots while Erik White made one save in 90 minutes in goal.
Princeton has not scored in three games or won in its last four, dating back to a 2-1 win over Adelphi on Oct. 8. The Tigers have three opportunities to get back on track this week but face more tough competition Tuesday at Rutgers, Friday when they host Cornell, and Sunday at No. 8 Fairleigh Dickinson.
