PRINCETON, N.J. - The 2003 men's soccer team practiced against the best teams in Italy and battled several top domestic teams with one main goal - To prepare for the Ivy League. The Tigers open league play this weekend when they travel to Dartmouth on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
Head coach Jim Barlow hopes the extra training and exceptional competition that they already faced will give the Tigers an edge in the Ivy League this season. Princeton is 2-2-2 including wins over Lehigh and Towson, a competitive loss to No. 10 Hartwick and a double-overtime draw with No. 17 Seton Hall.
But the Tigers schedule doesn't get easier yet.
Dartmouth is 4-1-2 and, until it lost to New Hampshire 2-1 on Wednesday night, was the only undefeated team in the Ivy League. As of Monday, the Big Green leads the league in every offensive category - shots (19.17 per game), points (7.00 per game), goals (2.50 per game) and assists (2.00 per game). They also average a league-best 0.83 goals against per game. Dartmouth was nationally ranked for the first time this season when it earned a No. 25 spot on the NSCAA poll last week.
Princeton's Darren Spicer leads the Tiger offense with three goals for six points while Jame Wunsch has one goal and one assist. Erik White has played all 580 minutes in goal with 14 saves (.700 percent) and six goals allowed (0.93 per game).
The men's game at Dartmouth is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. following Princeton vs. Dartmouth women's soccer at 12 p.m.
