New Haven, Conn. - The Princeton women's golf team has competed in three tournaments this fall, and with today's win at the Yale Invitational, the Tigers have taken home the first-place trophy each time. The Tigers followed yesterday's 308 with a 304 today to rally past Rollins College to win the tournament by five strokes over Yale.
Princeton was three strokes behind Rollins yesterday in second place, but strong rounds by Princeton's foursome on the course lifted the Tigers to the top of the leaderboard. Behind Yale and Rollins, Boston College and St. John's completed the top five.
The top individual finisher for Princeton was Meg Nakamura. She was tied for the tournament lead after Day 1, but a second-round 77 placed her second overall in the final rundown, two shots behind Yale's Cindy Shin. Sharla Cloutier shot a second-round 73 to climb from 13th yesterday to finish fourth overall. Taryn Haladay shot her second straight 77 to place in a tie for seventh, and Avery Kiser placed 10th to complete Princeton's scoring foursome.
Other Tigers competing at the event were Alexis Etow (t-12th) and Caitlin Sullivan (t-36th).
The Tigers return to action the weekend of Oct. 18-19 for the Penn State Invitational.
