Annapolis, Md. - On the strength of John Stover's four goals, Princeton downed St. Francis 9-6 to advance to the final of the Eastern Championship. The Tigers, who never trailed in the match, broke open what was a tie game with three goals to close the first half and added two more at the beginning of the third quarter to pad their advantage to 8-3.
St. Francis cut the lead to 8-4 but the Tigers quickly answered, extending the lead to 9-4. St. Francis scored the games final two goals but never seriously challenged the Tigers the rest of the way.
Stover's four tallies led Princeton while Milos Vuksic led with St. Francis with three goals. Peter Sabbatini had a season-high 11 saves in goal along with five steals.
Princeton advances to the Eastern Championship tomorrow to take on Navy at 2:00 pm with the winner advancing to the NCAA Final Four. The Tigers have not played in the Eastern title game in 11 years.
This will be the fifth time the teams meet this season and the third time in a championship game. The Tigers defeated the Midshipmen in the title games of the ECAC and Southern Championships.
