PRINCETON, N.J. - The shorthanded Princeton wrestling team suffered a 32-9 loss Saturday afternoon to the No. 19 Wisconsin Badgers. Down two of its most experienced wrestlers, Brian Kirschbaum (133) and Joe Looke (HWT) to illness, the Tigers could only muster a hard-earned win by Milo Adams and a forfeit victory against the hungry Badgers, who had lost the night before to Penn.
Princeton wrestled Franklin & Marshall later in the day, and those results will be available later.
HWT - Joe Chose (W) def. Nate Rawlings 8-0
Chose earns a first-minute takedown and maintains the pressure through the remainder of the period, earning a 2:13 advantage in riding time. Chose recorded another takedown after the wrestlers started the second period neutral, and rode it out for a 4-0 lead after two periods. Chose put the match away with an immediate escape and takedown in the third period, and he rode him the rest of the way to secure the major victory. 125 - Tom Clum (W) def. Kenny Chu 9-2
After two spirited minutes in the first period, Clum was able to finally secure a takedown on Chu, but the experienced Tiger senior was able to roll it into a reversal. After a restart, Clum was able to gain an early escape for a 3-2 lead after one period. Chu chose defensive to start the second period, but was unable to escape and lost two minutes of riding time. Clum grabbed a 4-2 lead early in the third period with an escape, and then recorded a takedown for a pair of insurance points. Back points and riding time gave Clum the 9-2 win.
133 - Ed Gutnik (W) p. Stephen Savin, :38
Savin replaced an ill Brian Kirschbaum, and never really stood a chance against the Badger sophomore. Gutnik took control early and worked his shoulders to the mat within the first minute.
141 - Milo Adams (P) def. Tony Turner 8-4
Adams earned Princeton's first lead of the day when he recorded an early takedown. Although Turner would escape quickly, Adams stayed the aggressor and took Turner down twice more in the period to hold a 6-2 advantage after one period. Adams cut Turner loose to start the second period, and then he showed his defensive abilities by warding off a takedown attempt when Turner held control of his ankle for an extended period of time. Adams selected neutral to start the third period, and fought off a valiant opponent with a final takedown in an 8-4 win.
149 - Cole Wunnicke (W) def. Matt Piselli 4-0
Neither wrestler could score in the first period, and Wunnicke took the advantage by keeping Piselli scoreless in the second period, as the Princeton wrestler took the defensive and failed to escape. With two minutes of riding time against him, Piselli cut Wunnicke loose to start the third period and battled for the necessary takedown. Unfortunately for the Tiger sophomore, the only takedown in the match would come from Wunnicke at the end of the period.
157 - Tyler Turner (W) def. Charlie Wiggins 7-3
Wiggins had the first good chance at a takedown, gaining ankle control near the edge of the mat, but the second of three Turner brothers wrestling for Wisconsin battled out of it and would eventually earn the lone takedown of the period. Turner was dominant in the second period, gaining 2:00 in riding time by keeping Wiggins on the mat. Knowing he needed points, Wiggins turned Turner to his back for a quick pair of points in the third period. Turned got them back with a reversal, although Wiggins escaped quickly. The Princeton junior had to gamble for a takedown, and Turner took advantage by turning into a takedown of his own to put the match away.
165 - Matt DeNicholo (P) wins by forfeit.
174 - Adam Turner (W) def. Jack Fleming 9-4
The third Turner brother held a 4-1 lead after one period, as he gained body control to earn a takedown and tilted him for two seconds. Fleming did gain an escape point, and after choosing the down position to open the second period, escaped again to cut the deficit to 4-2. Fleming grabbed Turner's left ankle for a takedown attempt, but the speedy Badger circled around for a takedown of his own. Fleming again escaped, but he entered the third period with a 3-point deficit and down 1:52 in riding time. It grew to five points with an early takedown, and Turner's lead was never challenged as he earned Wisconsin's sixth win of the match to that point.
184 - Ryan Flaherty (W) def. Ian Roncoroni 20-7
Once again, an aggressive early move by a Princeton wrestler failed to score, and a Wisconsin wrestler took advantage. This time, it was Roncoroni who took Flaherty to the mat, but the two tumbled out of bounds before the Tiger sophomore could score. Flaherty would end up with the first takedown of the period, and rode him for the final 2:08 of the period. Flaherty gained an escape to open the second period, and then circled around a takedown attempt for his second takedown of the match. Flaherty opened the second period with a reversal, although Roncoroni finally scored with an escape. Flaherty scored again with a takedown, and then went into a process of scoring and releasing in attempting to secure the technical fall. He fell short, but did claim the 20-7 win.
197 - Lee Kraemer (W) p. Matt Hawrilenko 5:44
Kraemer scored a takedown and a near fall in the opening period, although Hawrilenko did a nice job avoiding the pin. Hawrilenko escaped to open the second period, but Kraemer again pulled off a takedown and near fall to take clear control of the match. Hawrilenko did manage a takedown to open the third period, but Kraemer quickly escaped, took down and pinned his opponent in 5:44.

Adams and Allen Sista provided Princeton's only wins as the Tigers fell 32-6 at home to Franklin & Marshall.
