Greg Parker was named the EIWA wrestler of the week today for his performance in his matches against Lehigh and Cornell. When Parker took the mat against Clint Wattenberg of Cornell on Saturday, Wattenberg was ranked second in the nation and had only one loss all year. Parker administered the second loss, a 7-6 tiebreaker thriller.
Wattenberg moved ahead early behind a couple takedowns to go into the second period ahead 4-1. After starting in the neutral position, Parker scored his only takedown of the match to pull within 4-3. He would add an escape to open the third period to tie it 4-4. Wattenberg again notched a takedown with 33 seconds on the clock, but Parker reversed the hold to tie the match at 6 and send it into overtime. Neither wrestler scored in the overtime forcing the tie breaker. Wattenberg chose the top position, but couldn't keep control as Parker scored an escape with 18.7 seconds remaining on the clock.
On Thursday night, Parker recorded the 100th win of his college career when he defeated Travis Frick of Lehigh in Dillon Gym.
Parker and his teammates return to the mat this Friday night when they host Harvard at 7 p.m.
