April 12, 2003
ITHACA, N.Y. - The Princeton men's lightweight crew rebounded following last week's home loss to Georgetown and topped both Rutgers and host Cornell in today's first varsity race. Princeton won three of the four events it entered, including another win by the freshman eight.
Princeton took the first varsity race on the Cayuga Inlet, finishing in 6:31.9. Rutgers placed second in 6:41.2, barely topping Cornell's time of 6:43.1. Princeton's freshman eight, racing in ideal conditions, had the best time of the day (6:27.0). A light headwind grew as the competition went on, but Princeton was still able to maintain victory in two of the three varsity races.
The closest competition by far came in the second varsity eight, when Princeton defeated Cornell by .4 of a second.
Princeton will travel to Penn next weekend.
