CAMDEN, N.J. - Highlighted by a tight victory in the varsity eight grand final, the women's lightweight crew swept a trio of races at the Knecht Cup over the weekend, held at Cooper River in Camden, N.J. The novice eights and varsity fours also won, but the moment belonged to the varsity eights, who topped Harvard by .4 of a second.
Princeton was able to avenge last year's third place finish at the Knecht Cup, when it finished behind both Wisconsin and Harvard. Wisconsin placed third, but was nine seconds behind the two Ivy frontrunners. Princeton, which took three of four races from its Cambridge rivals last year, took the weekend victory by finishing in 6:58.3. Harvard placed second in 6:58.7.
The novice eight topped Wisconsin by nearly 12 seconds, while the varsity four defeated Wisconsin by more than 13 seconds.
Princeton won't have long to savor its win over Harvard, which it also topped in the Windermere Collegiate Classic two weekends ago, as the Tigers will welcome both Harvard and MIT to Lake Carnegie this weekend.
