Tigers Maul Bears In Women's Lacrosse Action

Princeton, N.J. - Lindsey Biles scored five goals in 20 minutes and 11 Tigers scored in all as Princeton rolled to a 19-10 win over Brown at Class of 1952 Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers dominated from the start, scoring early and often to secure a share of the Ivy League title.
Sophomore Elizabeth Pillion, who finished with three goals on the day, starting things with an unassisted goal only 50 seconds into the contest. Classmate Leigh Slonaker chipped in with her 21st goal of the season to make the score 2-0 and senior Whitney Miller scored a minute later to have Princeton off an running. "I think we really came out and played well from the start," says Biles. "Everyone played so well and we really controlled the tempo throughout."
Biles scored the next two Princeton goals and after senior Alex Fiore's 19th goal this season, Biles scored again to give the Tigers a 7-0 lead at 8:58. A free position shot by Christine Anneberg got Brown on the scoreboard at 14:07; however, a 3-0 Princeton run with back-to-back goals from Biles and a goal from Theresa Sherry gave the Orange and Black a commanding 10-1 advantage.
"We came out and dominated the game," says Sailer. "Everyone did a good job. We controlled the ball and scored a lot of goals. I was very please with what I saw out of our supporting cast."
Tara Hardiman, Liza Hillenbrand and Ingrid Goldberg, who scored her first goal of the season, all chipped in with a goal in the first half to give Princeton a 13-4 halftime lead. Freshman Olachi Opara showed her offensive power with three second-half goals, including one off her own draw control.
Senior Rachael Becker, who finished with two caused turnovers and three ground balls, also played offense and scored her first goal of the year, taking the ball almost the length of the field before beating Brown's goalkeeper Julia Southard.
The Tigers outshot Brown 28-16 and also picked up 28 ground balls on the afternoon. Fiore led the Tigers with four draw controls and was one of three Tigers to pick up two assists on the afternoon. Senior Sarah Small and Hardiman also had two assists for Princeton.
"It was good to see everyone contribute," says Small. "I feel like we are playing at a high-level and we have a lot of momentum heading into the postseason."
Princeton finishes the season with a 12-4 overall record and shares the Ivy League crown with Dartmouth and Yale. All three teams ended the year with 6-1 conference marks and with all tie-breakers even, the Ivy League's automatic bid will now be determined by a random draw this evening. The NCAA selection show is tomorrow evening at 8 p.m. Princeton, ranked No. 6 in last week's IWLCA poll is expected to move up with its win over No. 2 Maryland earlier this week. The NCAA tournament begins on Thursday, May 8.
