PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Princeton softball team got its job done Saturday morning when it finished off Brown, 8-5, and clinched sole possession of the Ivy League title. The game, which was halted on April 14 due to darkness, resumed in the top of the ninth with Princeton up, 8-5, and ended in nine minutes with no runs. The Tigers, now 11-3 in the Ivy League, are the outright Ivy champions and receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Regional Tournament.
The game began with Melissa Finley on first base and two outs against Princeton. The Tigers got one hit before the last out to end their at-bat with the 8-5 lead. The Bears loaded the bases with just one out in the bottom of the ninth, but Princeton put the game away with two outs on the next two at-bats.
Princeton return homes today for a 5 p.m. game against Rider in its Princeton Invitational Tournament. The Tigers then play two games against St. Joseph's and one against Rider tomorrow beginning at 11 a.m.
