Princeton, N.J. - Senior Rachael Becker was named the 2003 Ivy League Player of the Year, earning her third straight unanimous first-team All-Ivy selection as Princeton's defensive leader. Senior Alex Fiore and junior Theresa Sherry join Becker as unanimous first-team selections while eight Tigers earn recognition on this year's All-Ivy squad.
Becker, a two-time first-team All-America and an Academic All-America honoree, was named last season's Defensive Player of the Year by the IWLCA and Inside Lacrosse Magazine. She is a candidate of this season's Tewaaraton Trophy, awarded to lacrosse's top player each year, and was a finalist in 2002.
This season, Becker led the Ivy League and the Tigers in caused turnovers with 51. She also has 59 ground balls and is Princeton's all-time leader in the combined category of ground balls and interceptions. She has marked the opponents top offensive threat all season long and has played more minutes than anyone at Princeton each of the last two seasons. Sherry leads the Tigers in scoring this season with 37 goals and 42 total points. She registered her 100th career goal this season (at Maryland) and she was also a first-team All-America selection last season. Sherry is a unanimous first-team All-Ivy selection for the second straight season and has scored in 16 of Princeton's 17 games this year.
Fiore, another first-team selection for Princeton, had a career year on offense for the Tigers. She leads Princeton in ground balls with 72 this year and has scored 19 goals and 12 assists. She entered the year with 15 career goals. Fiore is also second on the team in caused turnovers with 33 and has 24 draw controls.
Three Tigers earned second-team All-Ivy honors and they are senior Whitney Miller, junior Katie Norbury and sophomore Elizabeth Pillion.
Miller earns her third All-Ivy selection with a strong offensive season. She is currently second on the team in scoring with 27 goals and 41 total points. She leads the team with 14 assists and has 38 ground balls. Miller was the Ivy League Rookie of the Year her freshman season and is Princeton's current leader in career postseason goals with 17.
Norbury picks up her first All-Ivy selection with 37 ground balls and 17 caused turnovers. Another leader on defense, Norbury has played more minutes than anyone but Becker. She has started every game for Princeton over the past two seasons and registered her first two career assists this season.
Making the second team as a sophomore, Pillion has had a monster season across the board. She is second on the team in goals scored with 27, she leads the team in draw controls with 36, is third on the team in ground balls with 51 and is third in caused turnovers with 27. She has started all 17 games this year and has two game-winning goals to boot.
This year's honorable mention All-Ivy list includes sophomores Lindsey Biles and Sarah Kolodner. Both players are honorable mention honorees for the second straight season. Biles led the Tigers in Ivy scoring with 17 goals in conference play. She has 24 goals, 33 ground balls and 14 draw controls this season.
Kolodner is now 13-1 in Ivy play and has a 31-4 overall record as a starter at Princeton. She has 117 saves this season and sports a 6.31 goals-against average heading into the Quarterfinals versus Ohio State.
Princeton is 13-4 overall and finished the Ivy season as tri-champions with a 6-1 conference mark. The Tigers received the Ivy League's automatic bid via random draw and face the Buckeyes on Sunday. OSU defeated Duke in the opening round of the NCAA tournament while Princeton crushed LeMoyne 19-1.
