PRINCETON, N.J. - Tiger fans can get a preseason glance at the 2003 men's soccer team this Monday at the sixth annual Mercer County Cup on the new turf at Mercer Community College.
Princeton first plays Ivy League rival Penn, which finished tied for first in the Ivies and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament last season. The Tigers and Quakers met once in 2002, a 0-0 tie in early November, and will meet again this season on November 8. They test the waters this Monday at 6:15 p.m.
The Tigers also play host Mercer in the Labor Day tournament at 8 p.m. or immediately following the Penn game. Princeton enters the Mercer Cup with a 2-2 preseason record from its trip to Italy last week. The Tigers dropped their first two games to elite Italian teams before defeating AC Noceto, 2-1, and Piacenza, 1-0.
Princeton kicks off its regular season at the Penn Tournament on September 12-14. The Tigers face Villanova at 12 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 12.
