Avery Kiser, a junior-to-be and the No. 1 women's golfer at Princeton, shot an opening-round 72 at the United States Women's Amateur, played on the 6,368-yard, par-71 Philadelphia Country Club.
Rain postponed Tuesday's second round, which was pushed back to Wednesday.
The top 64 golfers after the two rounds of stroke play will advance to the match-play part of the event. After one round, Kiser trailed the leaders by three shots but also had a five-stroke lead over the 65th player in the field. She also had a one-stroke lead over highly touted 13-year-old Michelle Wie.
Kiser has won the Ivy League championship each of her first two springs at Princeton. She finished the past spring with three individual titles in four Princeton team tournaments and was Princeton's top scorer in all four spring invitationals.
