Kiser Advances To Match Play Round Of U.S. Amateur Championships

Gladwyne, Pa. - Princeton junior-to-be Avery Kiser, the Ivy League women's golf champion each of the last two seasons, followed her opening round 72 with a 74 to finish 15th in the stroke play portion of the U.S. Amateur championships at the Philadelphia Country Club.
Kiser, a native of Rancho Sante Fe, Calif., easily advanced to the match play portion of the championships by finishing among the top 64 in stroke play.
The match play portion of the event begins Thursday morning, and the field will be cut to 16 with a second round of match play Thursday afternoon. There will be two more rounds Friday to set up Saturday's semifinal round and Sunday's championship.
Kiser will face Hsiao-Ching Lu of Chinese Taipei beginning at 9:54 a.m. Thursday. Kiser's two-round total of 146 was six shots better than her opponent in the stroke play portion of the event.
The winner of that match will face the winner of the match between Becky Lucidi of Poway, Calif. (147 in the first two rounds), and Ashley Rollins of Austin, Texas (151).
