PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Darren Spicer scored the only goal of the game as the men's soccer team defeated Lehigh, 1-0, at the Penn/Kappa Classic at Rhodes Field. The Mountain Hawks had entered the game with a 3-0-1 record and had not surrendered a goal in 400:00 minutes this season. They were also coming off a 1-0 overtime upset of No. 25 Penn on Friday.
The Tigers scored in the first half when Ryan Rich assisted on Spicer's game-winning goal. Princeton and Lehigh finished with the same number of shots but Tiger goalkeeper Erik White made three key saves to earn the shutout.
Head Coach Jim Barlow was pleased with his team, which opened its season with a 1-0 loss to Villanova on Friday.
"We played much better than on Friday," Barlow said. "In terms of competing harder and staying organized, we really showed up to play today."
Princeton (1-1) returns to action next weekend when it hosts the Princeton Invitational from Sept. 19-21. Penn plays Towson at 5 p.m. on Friday night followed by the Princeton vs. Loyola match-up at 7:30 p.m. This will be the Tigers' first home game of the season.
