PITTSBURGH, Pa. - All good things must come to an end, and the Princeton women's swimming and diving team saw a very good thing end Monday. The Tigers broke from winter training to test itself against Pittsburgh, and the host team won the battle of top-30 programs 165-135. The Tigers had won 47 consecutive meets heading into Monday night, a record for any team in school history.
Princeton jumped out to a quick start, as Michelle Demond and Maggie Littlefield placed 1-2 in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions. Demond took the former with a score of 258.07 and the latter in 293.78.
The top performer in the swimming events was Libby Engelmeier, who won the 1000 free in 10:17.93, topping teammates Sarah Frauman by nearly three seconds and Lisa Vollmond-Carstens by nearly six seconds, and the 500 free in 5:03.48. Vollmond-Carstens placed second in the 500 free in a time of 5:07.14.
Princeton's final other individual win came in the 100 back, as Kitsie Kerner won by .04 of a second, topping Pittsburgh's Andrea Shoust in a time of 58.10.
Head coach Susan Teeter and her squad will look to start a new streak on Jan. 25, as Princeton will host Dartmouth at DeNunzio Pool that morning.
