QUEENS, N.Y. - The Princeton men's tennis team advanced to the semifinals of the ECAC Division I Men's Tennis Invitational and a matchup with top-seeded Harvard with an impressive 6-1 win over Yale in the quarterfinals of the tournament played at the USTA's National Tennis Center Saturday morning.
The Tigers, the No. 4 seed in the tournament, defeated the fifth-seeded Bulldogs thanks to wins at five of the six singles spots and a doubles sweep. Four of Princeton's five singles wins came in straight sets.
Sratha Saengsuwarn won big for Princeton at No. 2 with a 6-2, 6-0 victory, while Hans Plukas rebounded from a Friday defeat to win easily at No. 3, 6-2 and 6-2. Shannon Morales earned a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 6 singles, while Josh Burman won a hard-fought 7-5, 7-5 match at No. 5.
Ashwat Sarohia won a 10-point tiebreak for Princeton after splitting sets at No. 4, though the Tigers had already clinched the match at that point. At No. 1, Darius Craton took Yale's Brandon Wait to three sets before falling in the decisive set.
Princeton lost just 13 games overall in the three doubles matches to take the doubles point.
The Tigers will meet the Crimson Sunday morning.
