October 28, 2004 | Women's Soccer
Oct. 28, 2004
The Princeton women's soccer team won a share of the Ivy League championship in 2000 and 2001 and then won the program's first outright title in 2002. A year ago, the Tigers came up empty, settling for second in the league. This time around, eighth-ranked Princeton is in control of the league race, needing a win in either of its remaining Ivy games to earn the outright championship again. The first shot comes up in Ithaca Friday night (7), when Princeton plays at Cornell.
Princeton (13-1, 5-0) at Cornell (4-9-2, 1-4-0) ...
A league of their own - Princeton is in first place in the Ivy League women's soccer race at 5-0-0, a game and a half ahead of second place Penn (3-1-1) and two games ahead of Yale (3-2-0) and Harvard (3-2-0). Brown, Dartmouth, Columbia and Cornell have all been eliminated from the league race.
More league - Princeton would win the outright Ivy League championship with a win in either of its last two league games (at Cornell, home against Penn Nov. 6) OR a tie against Penn, regardless of what happens in this weekend's games (Princeton at Cornell, Brown at Penn). Still more league - Princeton could win an outright championship or a share of the Ivy League championship with at least 17 different scenarios involving the remaining two weekend's games.
Just win baby - Princeton needs one win in its remaining three regular season games to equal the school record for wins in a season with 14, set originally in 1980 (the first year of varsity women's soccer at Princeton) and equalled in 2001.
