QUEENS, N.Y. - The run of the Princeton men's tennis team at the ECAC Division I Invitational came to an end Sunday morning when the Tigers fell to top-seeded Harvard, 6-1, in the semifinal round at the USTA National Tennis Center.
Princeton, the No. 4 seed, finished in third place in the event, which features the top 16 Eastern teams playing a four-day, team tournament that ends Monday. Harvard will meet Penn State in Monday's championship match.
Shannon Morales was Princeton's lone singles winner, at No. 6, coming back from a set down to win the second set 6-5 and then take a 10-8 tiebreak to win the match. Princeton's No. 3 doubles team of Andrew Lieu and Hans Plukas also earned an 8-6 victory, but Harvard won two close matches at Nos. 1 and 2 to take the doubles point.
Plukas also had a three-set match at No. 3 singles, but lost a tiebreak third set after splitting the first two.
