Junior Sarah Schaffer and freshman Lisa Hamming each won two events and Princeton was the winner in all but two events overall as the Tiger women's swimming & diving team opened the season with a 225-73 victory over Boston College at DeNunzio Pool Saturday morning.
Schaffer won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.88) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:07.34) for the Tigers, each by margins of nearly two seconds. Hamming was the winner in the 400-yard individual medley event in an impressive 4:27.03 and also took the 100-yard freestyle race in :53.42, nearly a second faster than teammate Sobenna George. Princeton got solid contributions from many of its freshman in their first official collegiate meet Saturday. Catherine Wolpe was the winner in the 500-yard freestyle, while Brett Shiflett won the 200-yard butterfly event and placed second in the 100 butterfly behind teammate Emma Tapscott. Shiflett and Hamming were also on the 800 freestyle relay team that won that race by nearly 16 seconds.
Another freshman, Charlotte Jones, won the one-meter diving event. Sophomore Raegan Reber was the winner for Princeton in the three-meter diving event.
Boston College won two races--the 200-yard individual medley and the 200-yard breastroke, with both races being won by junior Nikoll Julian.
Princeton's Stephanie Hsiao won the 50-yard freestyle and also was a part of the 200-yard medley relay group that earned a victory Saturday.
