Box Score
Princeton, N.J. - Union scored four times in the third period to rally from a 3-2 deficit and defeat the Princeton men's hockey team 6-4 Friday night at Baker Rink. Junior Dustin Sproat led the Princeton offense with a goal and two assists. The Tigers fell to 2-4-1 and hope to rebound tomorrow night when they host Rensselaer.
Princeton (2-4-1; 2-3 ECACHL) held one-goal leads of 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2 in the game before Union's third period outburst lifted them to victory. Princeton opened the scoring 11:38 into the contest on senior Luc Paquin's third goal of the season. The goal came during a two-man advantage and was assisted by Sproat and junior Patrick Neunrdofer. All three players have now tallied points in four consecutive games and Paquin has scored goals in three straight. Union (6-5; 5-0 ECACHL) responded at 15:04 to tie the game up when Scott Seney recorded his first of three goals and four points on the night. An errant Princeton pass found his stick on the doorstep and he beat junior goaltender Eric Leroux to even the game up. Union outshot the Tigers 13-5 in the period but the score was even at 1-1 entering the first intermission.
Princeton went back on top at the 4:09 mark of the second period when junior Sebastian Borza posted his second of the year and second in as many games. The goal, which also came on the power play came after Borza's shot ricocheted off a Union skate and past Kris Mayotte. Sproat and Paquin assisted.
Union only needed 25 seconds to respond and Seney made it 2-2 when Josh Coyle fed him in front from behind the net.
Princeton went ahead 3-2 at the 15:15 mark of the second period when senior Neil Stevenson-Moore scored his first of the year. Freshman Mike Moore fed Stevenson-Moore just inside the Union zone, where he teed up a blast that Mayotte was screened on to give Princeton a 3-2 lead, which they took to the locker rooms. Princeton outshot Union 14-13 in the period.
Union took advantage of an early 5 on 3 in the third period to knot the game up. Seney scored his third of the game just 23 seconds into the period. He had the puck on the goalline and pulled Leroux off the post before shooting it high. Coyle made it 4-3 at 4:26 when a turnover left Oliveier Bouchard and Coyle all alone in front. Bouchard fed Coyle who redirected it in.
The game went back-and-forth until Union went ahead 5-3 at 14:19 when junior Mark Masters, while attempting to clear the puck, deflected it into the Tiger net. The goal was credited to Bouchard. Princeton got back within a goal at 15:56 when Sproat tallied his sixth of the season from sophomore Grant Goeckner-Zoeller and Borza. Union added an empty-netter by Bouchard.
Union outshot Princeton 12-9 in the third period and 38-28 for the game. Leroux made 32 saves while Mayotte turned aside 24.
Princeton returns to action tomorrow night when Rensselaer (6-5-1; 2-3 ECACHL) visits Baker Rink at 7 p.m.
