Fresh Faces Lead Women's Swimming To Ivy-Opening Wins

Philadelphia - The Princeton women's swimming and diving opened its race for a sixth straight Ivy title with a sweep of Penn and Cornell in Philadelphia on Nov. 19. Freshman Ellen Gray and Lisa Hamming made impressive debuts against league competition.
Princeton won nine of 15 events on the evening, which began with a win in the 200 medley relay. That relay began with Brett Shiflett, one of numerous impressive freshmen on the squad. Following the medley win, a pair of her classmates pulled out individual wins as well. Ellen Gray won the 1000 in 10:22.38, while Lisa Hamming too the 200 free in 1:54.30. Hamming's closest competitor was Shiflett, who placed second in 1:54.87.
Hamming wasn't finished, as she went on to win the 200 IM in 2:07.11, edging out 2004 Ivy champion and teammate Stephanie Hsiao. Other Princeton winners on the day included Sarah Schaffer and Kitsie Kerner. Full results can be found by clicking the link above.
