Katy O'Brien Lifts Women's Basketball Past Wagner 63-53

Staten Island, N.Y. - Junior Katy O'Brien went six for nine from three-point range and scored 18 points to set the Tigers past Wagner, 63-53 and marked the first road victory for Princeton since the 02-03 season. The Tigers improve to 2-3 on the season, while the Seahawks remain winless at 0-4. O'Brien shot a perfect 4-4 on the three ball until a missed opportunity in the ninth minute. She finished the game with a season-high 18. Princeton took an early 6-5 lead at 15:29 after junior Becky Brown made two free throws. Junior Ali Smith then went three for three from outside the arc and gave the Tigers a 17-14 advantage.
Freshman Meagan Cowher scored four of her first-half 10 points to give the Tigers a 31-29 lead into the locker room. Then in the second half, a breakaway lay-up from Cowher opened up Princeton's largest lead of the game, 49-38 with 10:56 on the clock. Cowher finished the game with 15 points and three assists. Wagner climbed back into the game with a 9-0 run and set the game at 51-49 in favor of Princeton in the fifth minute, but it was O'Brien's basket at 3:31 that lifted the Tigers, 54-51 and changed the momentum. Wagner had 14 turnovers in the opening half, while Princeton had just four and nine assists. The Tigers converted on a season-high 11 three-pointers. Princeton earned their first road victory since a win against Samford on Nov. 29, 2003. The Tigers will conclude their five-game road schedule at Rutgers on Wednesday, Dec. 8 at 7:30 p.m.
