Princeton Tops No. 18 Arizona State, Falls To No. 20 South Carolina On Opening Day For Softball

Columbus, Ga. - Erin Snyder threw a five-hitter and Princeton needed only one hit of its own to defeat No. 18 Arizona State 3-1 in the opening game for the softball team.
Princeton managed only one hit in the second game as well, falling to No. 20 South Carolina 6-0.
ASU scored in the bottom of the first, but Snyder would allow only three more hits the rest of the way. Princeton's only hit came in the second, when Kristin DelCalvo singled but Princeton did not score.
Princeton tied it when Stephanie Steel drove home Kristin Lueke on a sacrifice fly after Lueke had reached on an error.
The Tigers then scored twice in the fifth without a hit. Lueke drove in one run with a fielder's choice, and Steel drove in the other with her second sacrifice fly.
Snyder made it stand up, retiring the final eight batters she faced.
The Tigers face Fresno State tomorrow, Saturday Feb. 28 at 10 a.m. before bracket play begins.
