Notre Dame Defeats Princeton Softball In Late Innings

Columbus, Ga. - Kristin Lueke went 2 for 3 and Erin Snyder hit her first homer of the year in Princeton's 10-1 loss to Notre Dame at the Leadoff Classic. The score was tied 1-1 after four until the Fighting Irish exploded for nine runs in the final two innings.
Notre Dame led 1-0 after the first inning when Megan Ciolli singled up the middle with two outs against the Fighting Irish, and Meagan Ruthrauff sent her home. After two scoreless innings, Snyder hit her first homerun of the year to tie the score 1-1 in the fourth.
But Notre Dame exploded for four runs in the top of the fifth when Ruthrauff hit a three-run homer. After allowing no hits for Princeton in the bottom of the inning, the Fighting Irish continued to dominate at the plate with five runs in the sixth.
Freshmen Calli Varner and Amelia Runyan made their collegiate debuts on the mound, relieving Snyder after she allowed eight hits and struck out six in the first five innings. Princeton went 0 for 3 in the sixth to end the game with the 10-1 loss.
The Tigers (2-2) play the loser of California vs. Nebraska tomorrow, Sunday Feb. 29 at 9 a.m.
